May Giveaway Day Apron
This sweet apron features Joel Dewberry Sparrows from the Aviary collection and two coordinates. I have to say I spent an obscene amount of time on what should have been a pretty easy apron. I now affectionately measure yards of bias binding in "light-yards" (like light-years) which is equivalent to the amount of yards of bias binding it FELT like I made.
Comment below for a chance to win! I'll pick a few of my favorite comments and let my daughter draw the winner. Be sure you input your email address in the comments form so I can notify you.

Beautiful apron! My fingers are crossed!!!
Gorgeous! Joel Dewberry is my favorite designer, I wish I could get more of his stuff (without spending allll of my money on shipping) in Germany!
Come check out my giveaway, too!
What a sweet apron for the hostess with the mostest. I love the colours too. I also have some goodies to giveaway so come on over!
I LOVE aprons and would LOVE to win this one!!
wow, very pretty apron! it comprises 3 of my favorite things: brown (brown was the 'color' for my wedding), pink (who doesn't like pink?) and birds (we have a nesting pair of bluebirds in our yard with 4 eggs...i feel like an expectant mother waiting for them to hatch!) thanks for parting with the apron...anyone would be thrilled to own it!
cute! I love the fabric... and what a nice way to pick a winner... Your daughter will appreciate being included!

That's darling! Thanks for the chance!
I love the colors of the apron!!! The shape is fabulous ;-)
Beautiful! I love that fabric!
Lightyards, haha. I have to say the end result is worth it! It is a beautiful apron. I would love to tie that baby on and make some cinnamon crumb coffee cake!
Thanks for sharing!
I love this! And I've put off making myself one too!
That apron is so fun! If I win, I promise to wear it while slaving away over S'mores cupcake experiments for as long as you spent making it. And then, once I perfect the recipe, I'll send it to you first!
I'm not usually an apron fan, but I love this one! I hope I get it!
Great choice of fabrics!! I love me some Joel Dewberry!!! Pick me! Pick me! *jumping up and down*
Very cute! Appreciate the time...I feel time comes to a halt when I have to rip out the stitches from something I sewed wrong...I already screwed up, why does it have to take so LONG to fix it? Thanks for the chance!
This is a great color combination-Pick me Pick me:)
That's an adorable apron!
I know what you mean about projects taking forever- I don't know if it's because I'm new, or a perfectionist, (or both) but everything I sew seems to take an obscenely long time!
Thanks for offering up such a great giveaway prize!
This is such a beautiful apron!! I love how you paired the Joel Dewberry Sparrows fabric with that perfect pink color! You realy have a fantastic eye for color and fabrics! This is just beautiful! I wouldn't be able to wear it while cooking for fear of getting it dirty! It's so pretty, I could wear it out the house! Thanks so much for this giveaway opportunity!
My husband would love my frumpy self in one of these! Thanks for the chance to win!!

Lady I love your apron and the great stuff you have been posting. I really love that bird fabric I think that may have to be an upcoming acquisition it is too pretty!
Love the birds. Maybe a poem will make this one of your favorite comments. My favorite one that brings birds to mind.
Hope
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
-Emily Dickenson
I actually NEED this apron. Really, I do. I need it because I'm in love with it.

Beautiful apron! Anyone would be lucky to get to wear this! Thanks for working so hard on it!
I would tell you that Joel is my favorite, but that has been said... I'd tell you that the apron is FANTASTIC, but again.... already taken, so I am just going to leave it at.......You are the most creative, beautiful, wonderfully talented, way crafty person in the whole wide world.... :-) Maybe this won't be your favorite comment, but it was worth a try :-)
This is so sweet! What a great apron. :o)
oh that's so, so beautiful! How generous of you to give away something you've spent so much time on! Thanks for the chance to win!!
Gorgeous apron! The winner will be one very lucky lady!
Come to think of it I don't have a pretty apron. I use my dads. He passed away a while back, so everythng is cherished. But i would love a pretty one.
The birds are so whimsical! Joel Dewberry fabric is the best!
What a wonderful apron! It might help me on my way complete my "suzy homemaker" transformation! LOL...wonder if it will inspire me to clean my house???
Ohhhhhh. How you can bear to part with such a darling apron? But, since you have made that decision, know that it would be well treated and happy in my kitchen!

Beautiful Apron. Found your blog from SMS.

That is one beautiful apron, the birds look happy perched on those branches! You have done a wonderful job.
The colours remind me of a Cherry Ripe Chocolate bar! You are making me hungry :-)
Oh its so pretty! I absolutely love the fabrics/colors! I remember the first time I made an apron in home ec everyone finished like the day before me...i thought I would never get it done. Thanks for the cahnce to win this beautiful apron!
Love the apron! That is one of my favorite prints! Thanks for offering such a generous giveaway.
Great giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win. You can register for my giveaway at http://ratherbecrafting.blogspot.com
I literally gasped when I saw the apron. Simply gorgeous. I really hope I win this one!
The apron is beautiful. I was just thinking the other day I need an apron and I'd be so stylish in this one!
yay an apron! it would be used in a vain attempt to keep myself clean while cooking/baking. maybe the super cuteness of it all would be able to repel the dirt/flour/random grossness on the bottom of the chicken broth carton...
I love that bird fabric. I adore aprons, even though my friends make fun of me for wearing them.
Heehee I totally agree on the 'light yards', the only thing worse than making bias binding is sewing it down by hand :)
Love the apron, so pretty, some of my favourite fabrics.
oh, this is lovely! It would be a perfect housewarming gift for my daughter!
wow, it's beautiful! i made my first "easy sew" apron for Christmas and it didn't work out so great... yours is awesome!
I just finished a skirt for my toddler. It took forever! Luckily its ridiculously long on her, so she can wear it for at least 3 years. 3x a week for 3 years sounds about right.
Pretty apron! I used to live in Erie :)
This is gorgeous! I've been collecting and displaying vintage and charming new aprons in my kitchen for the past few years. I sometimes wish people still wore cocktail aprons. Tying on a cute apron makes everything more fun!
What a beautiful apron! I'm loving birds right now.
kldemare at yahoo dot com
Making bias yardage is on my to do list. I adore the apron. That Joel Dewberry fabric is so calling my name, but my budget keeps telling me to ignore it and sew what I already have.
ooh! ah! so lovely! i just "oohed" out loud when i saw the apron! (my husband is laughing at me as a type!) would love to win this - thank you!
christinaleigh1@gmail.com
Oh my! I gasped (in my head ;) when I saw this awesome apron! I love the fabric combos and I would really love to win this apron! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
Oh man, I've been there. I'm going to have to use light-yards from now on! Have you seen Joel Dewberry's new line coming out, called Deer Lodge? The columbine print is especially gorgeous - bet you'd love it!
I hear you on the bias tape. It makes me want to rip my hair out. I have tried making it and then gave up. It doesn't hurt that I inherited a bunch of vintage bias tape and now can feel okay about not making it.
Beautiful apron! I have had projects that went like that too, but mine didn't come out as nicely as yours.
Well thanks for the extra care. It is beautiful.
I saw this post.
I read it.
And read it again.
I can't believe some of the fantastic things people are giving away.
Please count me in! :)
The apron is so absolutely adorable! I would love to win it since I would never make one for myself ... I don't really get along too well with bias tape. We had a big argument a few years ago, and we're still not on speaking terms! :)
The colors are beautiful, and I can tell how much work went into the apron. How sweet of you to do such a thoughtful giveaway.

I'm in Colorado too (Parker) and just loved your description of leaving CO to head back to the South. WOW...it's like you can't breathe!
Gorgeous apron too. My little one would love it! michelleharrod at comcast dot net
Aprons are under rated
alot of people think they are old and dated.
Not me I think they are glam and totally fab!
Not boring and old and completely drab.
To win this apron I'd shout with glee
and I am sorry I made you read this rhyme that is quite corny ;-)
Ahh I just finished telling someone that this sparrows fabric was my favorite Joel Dewberry! I love it! I need this so I feel like cooking myself proper dinners more often.. though on second thought I might just make the roommate wear it when he cooks for us ;)
Well I think that obscene amount of time was all worth it because this is just so pretty!
Beatiful apron. I love Joel Dewberry fabric...they're awesome.
your giveaway goodie is a sweetie! i so love aprons and birdies. pls join my giveaway too.

This is gorgeous! I've recently began a new hobby - cake decorating and have quickly realized I make a mess in the kitchen! I need to start buying or making aprons :)
Thank you for the giveaway!
It's beautiful - your hard work definitely paid off! Thanks for participating in the giveaway.
This is very cute! I love aprons, they so much fun!
Thanks for doing the giveaway.

BEAUTIFUL apron!!!! I feel you with the light-yards. I once tried a bib with bias-tape. Yes, a simple, stupid bib. Horribly complicated, and horribly ugly. I didn't even make my baby wear it to drool around the house in. I am still scared - I haven't used bias tape since - and I have like 3 quilts to finish with it. sigh...
But back to you! Your apron is LOVELY! The light-yards were worth it!
I love the color choices on this apron...and I love aprons. Isn't it funny how the projects we envision not taking long, see to take the longest?? I have definitely experienced this myself. Anyway, it is beautiful.
How cool! I'd love to win :)
Oh, that's beautiful! I hope I win! I sure could use a pretty new apron.
orier@comcast.net
Love your apron!

Oh my MIL would love this for her birthday, she collects aprons.... Thanks for joining the SMS giveaway!
Well the time was well spent! It is gorgeous! Great job!
What a beautiful apron! I'm inspired by the intricate work you did - I am still an amateur sewer and trying to learn. I would love to win this since my main creative outlet is baking and I am constantly getting my dirty hands (and my daughter's floury hands) all over my clothes!
Thanks for the great opportunity!
suserat at yahoo dot com
Wonderful apron - so pretty! I'm hoping I win! :)
Are you KIDDING me? You are giving away this sweet apron? I have major apron love--and pink love--this is beautiful.
monicawalkAThotmailDOTcom
That is lovely! I think I will have to hunt down that print. I just tried making my own bias tape for the first time the other day and I made about 11 inches of it. And managed to burn my fingers twice so I admire anyone who makes a useable ammount of it. :)
Your apron is very lovely. It would be perfect for my sister who at 28 has just taken up cooking.
AAHHH talent, talent, talent!! I love the style of this! I hope I get the chance to be one of the comments you pull from!!
Pick me....Sugar In MY Bowl lady's daughter!!
hehe
JloMamaJama@aol.com
I love this apron, the combination of fabrics is just stunning.
You mentioned making bias. I made a video tutorial on a technique for making bias which makes things a bit easier. You may already know how to do this but I hope its helpful to you in the future if you didn't.
Here's the link: http://erincomptondesign.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-make-continuous-bias-strip.html
so pretty!
i love this fabric ... the birds are so adorable, and the colors are lovely.
thanks for spending so many light-years making your light-yards of binding! :o) (believe me, I know the feeling)
This is my favorite of the sew mama sew giveaways! Plus, I love that I have been able to find and peruse through your blog. I'm enjoying it so much that I'm adding it to my read list. The apron is beautiful . . . I hope I win!
Very cute apron! I'm sorry it took you so long to make it, but know that whoever wins it will love and cherish it and it really will be worth your time. :-) Have a great day!
this apron is beautiful!
What a cutie-patutie apron!
I'd love to wear it while serving up a summer tea party for my daughter and her friends!
Thanks for a chance to win! :)
hootie364@gmail.com
Yum! I love the fabric choices.
I'm also having a giveaway and hosting a fat quarter swap. Come and check it out :)
Beautimous!!! I must have it. Pick me, it goes fabulously with my eyes!
I LOVE brown and pink - so cute! Great style.
What a beautiful little apron! I attempted to make an apron myself- I thought it would be rather simple as well. I didn't even attempt to use bias tape or anything elaborate and it still took a crazy amount of time! Love the fabric that you choose- you have great taste!!
This apron would be perfect for my best friend, I'd love to win in for her!!
That is a gorgeous apron! Pink and brown is one of my favorite color combinations. I think it would look pretty awesome on my husband, who does most of the cooking in our house. ;)
That apron is too stinkin' cute! I'm such a messy baker, I'm afraid I'd mess it up... but I guess that's the point of an apron. Those are some of my favorite fabrics, too. You did an amazing job.

love the apron!
What a generous giveaway! I love the color combination. You did a terrific job!
Birds-birds-birds-I love them so! In pink and brown no less. What a nice pick me up to fix breakfast in that cute apron! Thanks for a chance to win! methvin3@bellsouth.net
I just made a wrap skirt that had handmade bias tape - and when I got all the way done, the skirt doesn't even fit me. I wanted to sob! And so I've tried to figure out some other way to wear the skirt, like as a halter top or something. I'm still scheming...Not about to waste all the bias trim or spend hours ripping seams! Beautiful apron!
That is an adorable apron, and I hear you on the binding. I just made the Susan Branch scalloped apron, and I thought the binding would never end! lol And, hello, from a fellow Coloradoan!
Sorry you were in a "bind" over this project...(sorry, I just HAD to say it!) but I think it was worth it!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Love this apron and would love to wear it while cooking dinner one night ;-)
I just love your apron, the colors are fun and yet grownup. It is so nice of you to part with something you spent so much time on. Thank you for your kindness.
Well, the apron turned out really well, so all your effort went to a good purpose. I really like the brown fabric that you used. :)
I just spent an obscene amount of time knitting a shawl that needs to be torn out and re-knit. Somehow I just can't get up the enthusiasm!
I really love the colors you used on this apron. It totally matches your website - which by the way looks great.
simply.simon.sisters(at)gmail(dot)com
I would wear this beauty while making homemade baby food for my little girl.
A little beauty amongst squash, sweet potatoes, and a frazzled mama would be WONDERFUL!
jmoore3333(at)gmail(dot)com
man, i am so going to do a giveaway with SMS next year. i love that joel dewberry fabric. and i love the dress you made for your daughter in the previous post!
Your time was well invested....for one of us! Love the pink details on this apron. I've never worn an apron, but if I win, I promise to do so!
Angelia
momtwoangelsATyahooDOTcom
You spent an obscene amount of time and light-yards of bias tape AND you're GIVING it AWAY?!! You must be an ANGEL! I once spent loads of time on a simple crocheted hat (my first), I would have never dreamed of giving it away after all of that work (not to mention it turned out pretty LOPSIDED--LOL!).
Hugs & Blessings!
This is a lovely apron! It shows that you spent a lot of time on it and took the tape to make it perfect! You have a lovely blog :).
I've been thinking about making my own apron for ages but with school and my general laziness, I'd rather win your beautiful, free one! :D
Cute, cute, cute!!
Love it!
Gorgeous!
(Can you tell I really like it!)
I'm giving away jewellery, but I'm not sure I put half the amount of effort into it that you did into this!
This apron reminds me of wonderful summer days spent outside barbequing and having fun with family! Definitely a cheery treat! I love it. Please count me in. Thank you!
I think I'm going to win!
Oh wow that is so cute! I am moving into my apartment for school this fall! This would be so cool!
Love the apron and the colors!
Oh my gosh I love it! I absolutely love it!!! I've been wanting to get an apron for such a long time now and haven't don't it yet... but now, with breastfeeding boobies, I can't see my bottom half any more and am getting extra messy in the kitchen (how'd I get that flour on my butt?) so I really need to get on with getting an apron!! :-)
♥ fancy apron! ...i'd even wear that out & about!
hey, try your luck at my giveaway too!
http://marelleshop.blogspot.com/
Wow - I love the apron! The colors are great together.
karamat26(at)hotmail(dot)com
I love this fabric and the pink is really cute too! I'm not much of a cook (sshh..don't tell my husband), so perhaps a sweet little apron like this will help me not burn the chicken...and if I do, then at least I'll look cute doing it.
I love the apron! Joel Dewberry is one of my all-time favorites. Stop by and register for my giveaways.
Oh my goodness! The fabric and colors are awesome! I would almost hate to use it in the kitchen! Thank you for the chance to win it! Have fun with the give away!
Gorgeous, gorgeous apron. Some projects become harder than they should be. I totally understand! From the looks of it, this one was totally worth it. :) Thanks for the chance to win it!

What a gorgeous apron ! Love the colors ! Thank you for a lovely giveaway !
That is one beautiful apron. How can you give it up? Don't you just hate making something for a present and when you are finished, you just want to keep it for yourself? Selfish? Yes, but human. Funny thing is, most of the time I could make myself whatever it is, but never do! Such is life!
Love the apron it is gorgeous. Love the fabric, will make someone into a very stylish looking cook.......
It just makes me think of a rasperry and chocolate cake...
It desserves its place in the kitchen !
Just beautiful! As a mama of three I am in the kitchen alot :) And by the end of the day I tend to be covered in everything from spilled milk to chocolate cake batter. Sometimes when I am in the grocery check out line and i have a few seconds to take a gander at my self I can't believe how I have left the house! Snot on a shoulder, something else on my pants. A few spots on my t-shirt! I think I need this apron :)
I love the birds. It is a perfect apron for spring. Or the middle of winter when you want to pretend it is spring.
capitalmom@gmail.com
It was nice to look round your blog and I definately will come back soon! Great photos:)
Thank you for offering this pretty apron! I don't actualy have one so it's a wonderful chance!

Wow! What a great giveaway! Thanks! The apron is beautiful!
Your light-yard is so true! Easy projects aren't so easy for me. I am fairly new to sewing, so I have lots of bobbin issues. I also spend too much time seam ripping. UGH! My next sewing projects will be Christmas gifts. I am plannng name pillows and a mouse puppet with foods to go with a book called Lunch by Denise Fleming. I hope it all works out.
This apron is beautiful. You really put your heart in it!
I bet your girls will love picking the winner.
That apron is adorable!! LOL, about how long it took. I have done that sooo many times!

Nice apron! I hate making bias binding, too. I go with pre-made whenever possible!
I love the apron. What talent!! Thanks so much for giving it away-I have never made my own bias tape, just binding for a quilt, maybe I should try it some time!
I actually drew in breath in an exaggerated gasp when your photo opened up! I'm just blown away, it's so gorgeous. Love Aviary!!! Love your blog!
very cute! Thanks!
Awesome job! Love the bird fabric
Doesn't it seem like things taste better when you have a pretty apron to cook in. I mean, I could make a grill cheese sandwich and you would think it was a filet if had this little number in my closet.
I love cooking in a pretty apron It makes me feel like a 50's domestic Goddess! :)

I also really adore you apron. I have a mini collection of aprons, all light in color, so your brown would be a very welcome addition. Thank you for the chance to win, and nice to 'meet' you!

I measure my sewing in thread spools. I go through a lot of thread in any given project because I rip out over and over again. Beautiful apron and I promise I will understand and appreciate the time and effort you put in to it. Thanks for the chance to own it.
This is an adorable apron. My 4-year old boy is obsessed with birds, so if I won this, wouldn't I be more motivated to COOK for the poor child now and then?
loving the apron...
Please enter me in the draw, and don't forget to enter mine. :)
I love items that have so much love (ie time) put into them.
Love it!

Lovely apron! Some of my favorite fabrics!
I don't know why the "light-fabric" made me say "to infinity and beyond" in my head:)
Oh, I love that Joel Dewberry fabric. Maybe I'd get some baking done if I was wearing such a cute apron!
Wow - that is beautiful!!!
I would kung fu kick someone to get this apron. I'm only partly kidding!
What a gorgeous apron!!! I was just saying to my Mum the other day how much I needed one when I was baking cupcakes, so what a perfect opportunity! lol
I love that fabric and haven't seen it before. How could I have missed some if Joel's goodness?
I have always loved this fabric!Thank you!
What a gorgeous apron! I definitely understand projects taking way longer than they should... my seam ripper and I are on a first name basis these days. I am only 5 months into my career as a SAHM and am still finding the domestic goddess in myself... this apron would be perfect to help me along!
This would be perfect for making rhubarb crisps with the rhubarb that's coming out of our garden right now! ...and for canning later on! ...and everything in between! It's my favorite apron in the giveaways so far, birdie prints are beautiful, and I love the fabrics you chose to go with it.
My breath whooshed out from my chest as I exhaled in amazement at the glowingly stupendous beauty that is your apron. Thank you for the opportunity to better my heart, mind, and spirit with your fantastic creation! :)
Ah bias tape...I was in the "bias tape mode" the other day. It becomes obessesive at times once you get started ironing. I am enjoying aprons these days as it brings me right back to the younger years making biscuits with my grandmother. Great memories!
Your apron is lovely and I am admiring the rounded corners...I'll have to try that out with my next bias tape project!
Oh, man! I hate when you go to do a simple task and it ends up taking forever! It's so frustrating! Just last night I tried to comment on a blog, and two-and-a-half hours later I was able to finally comment. I probably should've walked away, but you never can when the task is easy. It's like a challenge, and you wonder what simple piece of the equation am I missing??? So I feel your pain, but I must tell you that the apron turned out beautifully. I would feel gorgeous if I was able to wear that in the kitchen!
Sorry it was frustrating, but thank you for the opportunity to win it!
miles of bias binding,
such a drag you're finding.
But the finished apron is a beauty,
wearing it would be no duty.
In my apron, brown and yummy,
I would be a happy crafty mummy!
This apron is so very sweet! i would love to be the happy new owner!
lovely apron. you're braver than me. bias and i don't see eye to eye very often almost a necessary evil, i do decry!:) thanks for the chance!
I gasped a little when I saw the picture of the apron! I used to waitress, and now I am a first grade teacher. I miss having an apron at work, and have thought about adopting the fashion of just wearing one for the next school year. Having those pockets could help always having scissors or glue or a pencil handy!
Thanks for the chance to win!
