Favorite Tortilla Chips

My good friend Andrea makes these tortilla chips frequently and she generously shared her recipe. They are so yummy with my curried lentil dip. Andrea also cuts them into tiny strips for topping salads and chili. What I most like about them is the ability to get Zoe involved in the process. She loves 'painting' the tortillas with lime juice and sprinkling on the seasonings. I hope you enjoy making them as much as we do!

Preheat oven to 450 or 425 if using a dark baking sheet.

You'll need small corn tortillas. Fresh tortillas from your local tortilleria are the best!

Arrange tortillas in a single layer on a baking sheet.

Use a basting brush to "paint" tortillas with lime juice so they are completely coated but not soaking.
Sprinkle liberally with garlic salt or other seasonings to taste.

Bake for 8-10 minutes. They should be well browned, otherwise they will be rubbery. But keep a close eye on them because they can burn easily at the end of the time frame. If the kitchen starts to look hazy with smoke, don't forget that you have them in the oven and wander off to find eyedrops for your blurry contacts. Don't ask how I know this.

Enjoy!

That looks yummy. I think that it would taste better if little Z came over and made them :)

Thank you for this recipe. We love tortilla chips and it would be great to make our own! And what an easy thing to do with the kids!

Mmmm, that looks yummy! Can I just say how jealous I am that it looks like Zoe is a natural in the kitchen?! It's a constant fight with Abigail...most of the ingredients end up in her hair and on the floor. Ugh!
